Radar memorial at St. Aldhem's Head
by Stridey
From May 1940 to May 1942 the nearby village of Worth Matravers was the nerve centre for radar development in the UK. This memorial on the coast path was erected in 2001. It represents two radar dishes which are arranged in such a way that they also form a large fire basket. This reflects both ancient and modern methods to warn of invasion: fires were lit as beacons to warn of the Spanish armada while radar forms the modern equivalent.

I didn't know that story about Worth. Interesting and a a fine, sweeping shot.
Best wishes,
