The distortion correction seems to be very effective and doesn't really slow down the camera at all.

Indeed, .., thanks for this irrefutable demonstration, .., but LC slows down continuous shooting speed, .. on my K-x, with deactivated LC continuous shooting gets nearly double fast, given jpeg or raw file size. Maybe problem concerns only K-x.
