Poppies in mono

by Cliff-P

Another attempt at mono, using flowers as the subject. I like the final outcome of this shot, the yellow poppy seems to lend itself for a b+w conversion.

Its a good black & white conversion and your composition is good, would have been nice to see the front of the flower though - just a thought.

I like the way flowers are looking towards the sun.
Nice capture.

Nice image, GX'. Lovely semi-backlit flowers. I like the B&W treatment, a split tone would look awesome on this too. My 'Woe & Wonder' image was split-toned.

I would darken down the midtones and dark tones. The blacks are not strong enough.
After doin' this you may need to 'dodge' the tones slightly on the backs of the flowers to keep them intact. This will make the subject 'pop' more and focus the interest on the flowers.

Lovely image.

And just to make things even more complicated, I would like to see this soft focus (gasp!) I like mono and it works here - looking from behind adds intimacy, but I think the sharpness detracts. I would have a go with something like the clarity slider or a bit of gaussian blur to add dreamy quality. Might work - might not?

I think we should have a separate gallery for Black & White!
