Was your set-up on a tripod?
Has your image had any/much PP applied?
What firmware do you have on the K7?
I ask because I'm really struggling to achieve this level of IQ with my (new) 150-500 on my K7.

This was hand held and came out well considering it was a spur of the moment shot. Little PP except for a big crop and some sharpening. I always shoot in RAW as it gives much better results especially if you over or under expose.
Light allowing I have camera mode set to TAv with auto ISO set to a MAX of around 1250. I find f8 is the sharpest for most shots with shutter speeds well above 160th second if possible. Remember to have Sigma lens SR set to position 1 or 2 if panning and have camera SR off.
Firmware is the latest available for K7

How heavy is the sigma 150-500 lens please?

The 150-500 is just under 2kg on its own and did seem very heavy to start with, however if you avoid carrying it directly from your neck its not too bad. I'm looking for a side/shoulder carrying system if possible. If you think the Sigma's heavy a friends Nikon D300 with hand-grip plus 300mm Nikon lens, plus 2 x converter all together weigh well over 5kg.
The Sigma used with care is brilliant as long as the light is fair to good, poor light causes noise which is difficult to get rid of.
