Intriguing Mood
by GIULIO57
I’ve been always afraid to show this work. Too simple, IMHO….but very difficult to take this picture using 400mm APO Sigma and even more crazy to manage it in PP. I gave a go in HDR using five different piccies (same F number and different speed) but I got a flat result. Then I tried an HDR single file tonemapped with two different files a little bit underexposed. Same flatness.
Well I got this uploaded here simply managing in PS a single 2/3 underxposed file. Differrent layers (levels-contrast) so I was able to recover right light on the left single tree, background and green-yellow in foreground. I spent a lot of time a few ya to reach this result but it well worthed to do so.
I didn’t want to loose that light at moment of shooting but editing has been very heavy. Hope you like it: not a masterpiece but sometimes simple subjects embedded by intriguing light give back right mood. I’m sure that digital allowed me to get this goal. Difficult, perhaps, using a film or a slidechrome.
Place: close to lake Trasimeno, Italy. Lens: 400 mm Sigma APO manual focusing.

Great shot using both colour and texture to create bands of interest while still presented with a main subject. Happy to look at this image and see no reason why you should be afraid to share it. Lovely shot ☺️

Thank you very much and thank again for your tip about Samyang 8mm. A friend of mine, living in Turin, is a photoprof and used samyang 8mm for many years with great satisfaction. He wrote me that this lens is very soft and smooth at F 3.5. Quality increases at 5.6-8-(11). Very bad (fringe) at F16. He used an adhesive tape to stop focusing ring at 0.5meters. Setting F5.6 or F8 everything was in focus from 30cm up to far infinite (hyperfocal). I read a few issues on PUG forum and saw a few pictures here (great quality) taken with samyang 8 mm. Till now I don't know what to think. I still hope this lens is in good health....but I must test it deeply.

Thought this was yours from the thumbnail shot Giulio. The yellow strip breaks the greens just right, great composition and simple subject as you said but processed very well in my opinion...Liked.
