I know your frustration and you are not alone in that. Your eyes see so much more that your camera lens. Your eyes have the ability to focus on what really interests you and ignores the rest up to as point. The skill in photography is to isolate that interest from the rest and to enable others to see what you have seen. That is what seperates a skilled photographer from a snapper and it is this skill that we all strive for, so don't put yourself down. You have listened to advice and have cropped this shot much as I would have done. The yellow lines close to the kerb still intrudes but you can only alter this by changing the viewpoint when taking the shot. You need to be aware of conflicting lines when composing a shot. A few yards further to the right would have altered the affect of the widening of the pavement on the left. Hope all this helps. Do you like your pic better now that you have cropped it?

Bob. Having looked again at your pic I will tell you what I really like about it. People are suckers for signs outside a shop and the nosey within us draws us across a street to read them. I want to pull up this shot just to read those signs and that is what you have captured here. Is this what reached into your mind and provoked you into taking this shot? If so, then you are on the road to taking interesting shots. It is a gift, so be grateful

Almost everyone who has a talent thinks little of it because it comes easy to them. There is a process behind your looking, behind your seeing and even behind your clicking that is different to anyone else. Take a landscape and ten photographers and you will end up with ten different pictures. Even the greatest talent has to work within rules. That is where you are at, learning to use your abilities within those rules.
