Hurry On Sundown

by Fletcher8

I wanted the sunlight to cover some of the rocks, but despite waiting the sun just went down and provided no magic on the rocks. You live and learn!

Hi Puma

Thanks for your comment! I am not happy with it though, I have tried this location three times now and just can't get what i would like. Have you ever seen a DVD called Perfect Expossure? I think it is one of the best Photography DVD's I have watched in terms of learning about the Zone System, well worth a look as are their other DVD's. Also check out a DVD called My Processing Workflow really good intro to photoshop.

This is a fabulous capture, I think our own expectations of a shot can sometimes spoil the pleasure we take in our work

That is a very beautiful picture - I'd be completely overjoyed if I had taken it.

Kind regards

A superb composition and one to be proud of

If you want to capture the glow, it might be worth trying the following next time too(not wanting to teach grandma how to suck eggs...)

Use a polarizer (or even better a 'warming polarizer')with the 'shade' white balance pre set, along with matrix metering and and take multiple exposures (or a single RAw that is split -processed) and try it in Photomatix Pro (you can get a free trial version) and create either a HDR (which you can make as realistic or painterly as you wish) or use its 'exposure fusion' method (finished with its 'higlights & shadows adjust' function)- which is the easiest way to get a 'natural look'

Very good shot, tricky light to handle, too.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Thanks for the tips. I may try out the HDR process again, I just struggled getting and HDR look that I liked, but i think for what I am after it would make sense to keep exploring and developing the HDR.

Composition wise I have made a lot of progress, but sometimes the light just wont play, but i guess thats why Landscape images are problomatic, the light is aways good when I am working.

I can email you later on with some suggested 'ball park' tone mapping settings that you could have a go at trying for a 'realistic' looking HDR (see my Blazing Saddle's or 'Melt' photos in my gallery for example.

I like this shot as it is. Nice lights and colours. Maybe you can try out the pseudo-HDR technique using the Photomatix Pro.
