Himalyan Balsam

by trixie

This is for Judith Ann, who wondered why I had included a photo of a flower in my collage of Roche Abbey,it is there because this flower although it is very pretty is extremly invasive and is taking over completely. Brought to British Gardens in 1839 since then has become widely naturalisd. This elegant plant is the tallest annual in Britain , growing up to 2 metres in height. Often given the name poor mans orchid. Each plant seeds up to 800 seeds each plant and they even live under water, it is getting to be such a huge problem as it is crowding out other wild flowers. Also look up Giant hogweed.
