Thank you David.

This is the best I have so far fo a heron, however, it is a very long way from being at the quality I want -

I must practice, must practice more

Cheers

Cracking photo, the rushing water adds drama to the picture. You see plenty of herons sitting like this, but getting such a good photo is very difficult. Anyway half the fun of wildlife photography is the one that got away. Well thats my motto.
How far away from the heron were you, and what lens were you using?

Hi Dave

I don't really have an idea in terms of distance - at a very rough guess I would have been about 50 feet away - I could well be wrong.

The lens used is my, very inexpensive, Tokina 300mm F5.5 m42 lens that cost me £16.00 plus delivery - apart from some pf (I used f5.5 for this shot and desaturated the pf) this lens is a cracker certainly at f8.

On this occassion the shots at f8 were not good so I went to f5.5 but the heron departed before I could work back through more apetures, the shot is cropped.
