My first ever bird shot, which I don't feel is very impressive but it's my first attempt, and I was unable to get any closer to these birds, using the DA 55-300mm lens.

lucky you to see a green woodpecker, you dont see them very often,

They are not uncommon here Scott,have you tried the Sigma 55-500mm lens?
