Good heavens ISO 1600 and f16 - your selected program isn't doing you any favours. That could be ISO 400 at f8 (I think) but really it was way too dark to get a good shot.
Forget all those dippy program modes. Go for Av where you choose the aperture (and the camera will set the shutter speed) and Tv where you choose the shutter speed and the camera will set the f stop. In this case you'd use Av say, select the f stop/aperture f5.6 and look to see what the shutter speed will be.
If it's a long shutter speed like 1/30th then you increase the ISO until it's faster like 1/125th (or of course just walk away).
You'll have to get to grips with Av and Tv mode to get reliably good shots. Your camera will deliver fabulous shots but you have to help it along the way
I'm in Worcs as well near Great Witley - whereabouts are you?
