I feel a sense if "irony" in the title.
A nice study.

Rust has 5 times the volume of the original steel or iron, expanding slowly but with tremendous force.

Yep. And even all foreseen in the dome of St. Paul's. I read somewhere it's encircled and held together and up by some sort of enormous chain... True?

I know nothing of St Pauls dome construction, sounds very possible.

I looked it up. And, indeed, there is a segmented ring of iron chain within the brickwork.
