When managing real DNA it is possible to "run" it using an electrophoreis chamber filled with agarose (horizontal) or acrylamide (vertical. Sequencing). So doing you see lines almost similar to your "ladder" https://www.google.com/search?rls=com.microsoft:it:%7Breferrer:source?%7D&rlz=1I...
