Stormy Sunrise

by mcrtchly

The recent storm Brendan provided quite a swell at Fanad Lighthouse, Co. Donegal. We arrived an hour before dawn and carefully picked a safe spot from which to watch the Atlantic breakers pounding the cliffs. We were drenched in spray from enormous waves breaking some distance behind us, and rained on heavily as we waited for the sun to rise. We'd almost given up any hope of a dawn when a tiny tear in the flint-grey curtain of cloud hanging heavily across the eastern horizon allowed the golden sunlight to flood through for a few moments. Honoured that this photo was selected by Flickr for their daily "Explore" group from a staggering millions of daily uploads!
