Double Take

by hocusfocus

First, you see workers busy constructing the building behind them. Then you see a photograph of busy workers. As a matter of fact, Mizrahi, the giant developer, has hung several large extraordinary photographs of construction workers on the fences bordering their construction site on which will be built a mammoth condominium at the corner of Yonge and Bloor street West in Toronto. It will reportedly be a rival to the beautiful condo that is across the street at 1 Bloor St East, of which I have posted several images here in Ephotozine. My brand new Rokinon 8mm Fisheye f/3.5 delivered the goods for me on this image. I am most impressed with this lens---a Christmas gift from my Secret Santa,

Nice compo. ROKINON means SAMYANG. Your lens is a 8mm fish-eye. Did you correct distorsion and "falling"lines in postprocessing? No fish-eye effect is visible.

Hi Giulio:
Yes, Samyang makes ROKINON lenses. IN LR, when you fill in the Lens Profile, it removes a lot of the distortion automatically---which I did. You can see a bit of "left-leaning" in the left side of the image, and I cropped away some left-side content, which exhibited even more distortion. I was amazed to see, however, what an effect profiling the lens has on the distortions. On another issue, this is the first fisheye lens, a/c to Rokinon/Samyang, that gives you a 180 degrees view, with the whole rectangular frame shown without the usual circular imaging other lenses create. The colour is fabulous in this lens, especially the blues, and all the reviews say the definition across the frame (from 5.6 and up) beats Nikon lenses hands down, at 1/10th the price. I have taken enough images so far with this lens to say I am more than pleased with its sharpness. The build is all-metal too, and the controls silky smooth.

Nice 'illusions' all round. Contractors are making great efforts these days to please the viewer. ( local one has even made cut-outs in the fence so you can peer through, including some at child height).
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Glad to read your words. I bought a few months ago a Samyang 8mm Fish eye. Former pictures didn't satisfy my taste....but later working at f5.6 or 8, ISO 100, hyperfocal...gave interesting results back....Useful is A mode (automatic controls on K20D that help to get more accuracy)....
