Thanks for the observations, chaps. There is, in fact, a full range of tones here. In fact the hightlights and slightly blown and the shadows are dense. The lack of "punch" is, I think, down to the CMOS sensor. Now if I'd taken the shot with my K10 and a ten bob lens...
