I like your idea behind this work...but I should have preferred a vertical compo. In your work flower in not only dead but even stragled in the upper right corner...using a vertical frame your work should have had more room and "breath"on the upper part. Good idea a black background...it helps eyes for stacking different planes and gives back an useful colour contrast. Sorry for my words and I hope not to offend you.

I can see what Giulio is saying, but on the other hand this composition give the feeling of being on ones own and neglected, so I guess it down to what you wanted to achieve

I tend to agree with Guilio. Its a good idea but I would have removed the flower and placed it on a horizontal surface and photographed it from there. That way you could reposition the flower head and stalk to make several different compositions. Anyway that's just my own view, I'm sure others would disagree.
Best wishes

Thank you all for your useful comments. My idea of placing the flower way out of the center was to reinforce the idea of sadness/loneliness. Maybe a bit to much.....
(Did I mention I used artificial lights?)

It does look sad and lonely in that corner but it would be even better with a little bit more room at the top and bottom.

I really like where you were going with this. The black background reinforces the the sad, lonley theme. I perhaps would have placed the background material under the vase of flowers as well so the whole frame would be engulfed in black. Good concept though.
