The compensator ports are at the very end of the muzzle, they compensate the gun recoil by redirecting propellant gases upwards.
@ MarkD: I compete in Production division with Glock 17. Currently at 12th place in Bulgaria. Unfortunately the Glock does not look good enough for the gallery

too close to SRS Watford.......
I competed in Standard Class with a 10mm Glock. Looks like that compensator works well. Interesting sight arrangement to clear the ejection port.
