Crane Fly

Crane Fly

Photo Information
I set out to clean our patio doors and starting on the inside I discovered this crane fly looking at me from the outside. So cleaning stopped and the camera plus tripod was put into action.

I was amazed how still the fly was and this plus still air enabled me to perform some focus stacking although, of course, shot through double glazing. As I often find my first exploratory attempt turned out to be the best mainly because the wind picked up making focus stacking difficult.

This is a 10 image focus stack all shot with a Pentax K-1 and the Samsung equivalent of the D FA 100 Macro. Live view and focus peaking were used to choose the focus point for each shot.

Shot raw, processed in LR6. The focus stack was assembled in Helicon Focus 7 and the result was cropped and resized in PSE14 where some dust and dirt marks on the glass were also removed.

Shot on 16/09/20 at around 09:16.
