Common Riding, Selkirk

by Lubbyman

The weekend starts with marching bands, including these pipes, and a proclamation. The next day is the riding itself - 3-400 horses ridden around the boundaries of the town's land. The festivities end with a ceremonial casting of flags in the town square to commemorate the disastrous (for the town) battle of Flodden in 1513. Plenty is eaten, even more is drunk and much fun is had by all.

A fine image of an historical event in the Scottish Borders. Not quite what I had in mind for a 'motion' theme but the pipes and drums are certainly on the move.
