Found this trawling through the archive. Technically it's a poorly lit mess, but somehow those eyes demand attention.

I also like this portrait very much, and the eyes are great. I like the dark side/ light side lighting BUT the only point I personally find not right is the panda eye effect on her right eye. Going from the deep shadow of her eye socket to the brightest part of the image, the side of her nose is not quite working. Overall I think it's a great portrait with a good choice of background colour.

Yes Nigel, the panda eye is my main dislike, but I have others. Poor girl, needed a real photographer!

I venture disagreement. There is nothing wrong with the "panda eye". It adds a difference, intrigues, makes one hesitate and, therefore, enhances the image. I thought the effect was intentional. Keep it as it is. Most straight portraits (unless they have personal sentimental value) are looked at once. Not this one. What ruffles me more is the top-right mauve patch which could have been eliminated or controlled more by some work on the hat-brim, so as to fulfil all the other (very attractive) curves. .

Nice shot, whatever the lighting...
Best wishes,

The stark background enforces attention on the subject and the eyes just get you. I like it.
