blackbird chick

by TonyD

blackbirds nested on a shelf in my greenhouse effectively making it out of bounds for several weeks. This picture was taken from outside the door with a 400mm Sigma lens so as not to disturb the chicks

Thank you both. It was difficult because I had to wait for the adults to leave and then go in and water my plants quickly then get out again before they returned with food. I set up my tripod outside the back door of the house which is about six feet from the greenhouse. I used a Sigma 400mm which, on my K10D gave me 600mm effectively so I was able to fill the frame. There were four chicks for several days but two vanished - I think magpies got them. Luckily, this one and one other fledged successfully. I have a picture of one of the fledglings taken using the same procedure which I will post in my portfolio.
