There's a story attached to the Berlin telephone tower. The E German authorities wanted this thing to show off their wonderful technology and prestige. They went so far as to cover all the windows at the top with gold. At around the time the building was completed they also issued an edict shutting all the churches since religion was not in accordance with their ethos. Come the first sunny day, the sun glinted off the golden windows and as the sun made its daily progress so an enormous golden cross followed it around the top of the tower. It could be seen across most of Berlin (and can still be seen today). Consequently, it became known as the Pope's Revenge!
Really dramatic photo too !
