A ruska jay

by Jokke

This is a picturesque memory of our trip to Kuusamo in north-eastern Finland at the end of September.
This bird is called naerhi in Finnish and jay in English. Many finns do not like this bird, and they call it
paskanaerhi (= shit jay). I like to call it ruskanaerhi, because ruska means beautiful autumn colours. You
can see those colours at the background and the bokeh. I took this photo (and many others, too) at the distance of about 2 meters (about 6-7 feet), just at the same terrace where the jay was.

Lovely photo of a fabulous bird, we only tend to see a glimpse of them as they are very wary of human activity. Hence getting as close as you did is quite a challenge.

A family of Jays has been frequenting our garden for the last few months! Nice to see them back. That bokeh is delightful!

Nicely lit colour on the Jay and a super background.
