A Different Take

Long exposure shot of Bamburgh. WB was way off and did not seem to work in B+W so decided to try a 'radical' treatment in LR3.
Not at all sure what I think of this one - so it would be good to hear what you think!

Hi Carl,
I'd go back and have another go at getting the WB right in Lightroom. As you know, it's not easy with the Hitech big stopper but when you get it right it's fine.
Also, I notice banding of darker blue at the top of the image. This is most likely caused by light leakage either through the seal of the filter itself or through the viewfinder.
cheers,
Neil

It was a really windy day - was struggling to stop the camera moving on the tripod. there was no light leakage - the banding was added by me in LR3 using grad filter on exposure.
This was the best of a bad bunch. Although I have some decent 'normal' shots from my 3 day trip and will post some over the next week or so. This was the first day and I could not do any more of these as I stupidly lost the quick release plate off my tripod (3rd this year!!!)

Hi Carl. I like the viewpoint and positioning of the castle, but I find the flat sea a bit too distracting. Also I don't think the foreground grass/reeds works too well.It doesn't quite look 'windblown' as I guess you wanted to acieve. IMHO I have given constructive criticism, but I am no expert.Still just learning.
I think it's good to swap views, good or bad as it can only help each other to improve our photography.
Best wishes

Thanks for your comments. Re flat sea - the whole point of a long exposure on this shot was exactly that - to get a flat sea - so that bit worked As for the grass - it was windy - wind + long exposure never a good combination - and I am not going to pretend that I was aiming for wind blown - it is what it is.
I put this shot up to see what anybody thought about the LR3 treatment and am surprised that this is the only thing nobody has commented on. Perhaps I should have first posted the original so that you could see the extent of the processing - which was huge
Nice to get a couple of real comments for a change - rather than the usual smiley faces!
Thanks Ian and Neil

Hi Carl it is what I class as a marmite shot you eiether love it or hate it. I personally hate marmite, but as for this shot you have totally nailed it, well done.

Thanks Timbo nad Paul - I have grown to like it - it was not what I was aiming for when I took the shot but it has a certain bizarre appeal
