I used the widest aperture as I could as I wanted the rose sharp but the cross just a looming presence in the BG.
Converted to B&W by extracting the red channel as I wanted the red rose to be white.

My original conversion was a bit flat as the rose was not white enough. Perhaps I've now gone too far in the other direction.

There was more space there but unfortunately the rose had some scruffy leaves so I cropped them out.
Personally I'm happy with the composition but perhaps if the rose was on a long slender stem I would have included more.
