1962 Austin Healey Sprite
by MikeInDevon
Yet another Austin Healey seen in Sidmouth. The DVLA has it listed as an Austin Healey Sprite but it's doesn't look like the typical design! The bonnet badge just says Healey, a bit of a mystery.

Looking at it this car has had almost all the outer panels replaced with GRP, the bonnet and wings look to be a one piece GRP unit that hinges forwards rather like the Trumph Herald did. See the hinges below and each side of the number plate. I guess it was in such a poor state that the restorer salvaged the car by ditching rusty metal for GRP.
I lot of spridgets are used for competition and owners (past and present) ditch the heavy metal bonnet and front wings to improve performance - it can make quite a difference if you are doing track days or hill climbs etc..Looking at it this car has had almost all the outer panels replaced with GRP, the bonnet and wings look to be a one piece GRP unit that hinges forwards rather like the Trumph Herald did.
