..and the moon again

by Mag07

While pictures of the moon alone are hardly rare or a big achievement, these are my first so quite excited! With the 55-300mm at 300mm, manual focus and fairly wide aperture. White balance set to Shade seems to give it a nice orange glow that I personally like, even though it's hardly accurate - it was yellowish but rather pale in comparison. PP in LR and de-noising, after some contrast boost, in Topaz. Obviously cropped. Critical comments more than welcome!

You have done well there, Magdelena !
I tried some moon shots myself but all I got was a white 'blob'. (Perhaps I should have experimented more with the exposure settings ?)
Whatever, nice image

Best regards

Thank you for your comments and unfortunately, the clouds are getting in my way lol. I managed to royally screw up the most awesome moonrise over London just the other day Just as you think you're getting a hang of things, the lighting throws you off...It's good though, keeps one humble and practicing "D

Nice shot. that requires a steady tripod.

Wildwood512, I think the temptation when starting to shoot the moon is to assume it's dark, and overexpose. But the moon isn't really very dark, given you can sometimes see it on a reasonably bright day. I think you should use a similar exposure for shooting the moon by night as you would by day (the light reflected by the moon will be much the same). Another thing to remember is the moon is moving, so don't use a very long exposure.
