Your walk around lens?

The DA* 16-50 is my first choice if not taking the camera bag. But it does have a number of problems:
it's not wide enough
it's not long enough
it's not macro
it's not fast enough
it's not small enough
it's not light enough

Which is why I have a walk-around bag containing all my lenses

Guess I missed the point?

Depends on where I'm going and who with really.

Holidays - DA* 16-50 and DA 55-300

General with family - DA* 16-50 or Sigma 50-150 (used to be the DA*50-135 but I confess it doesn't get used much now)

For all other trips I would take the most appropriate lens for the purpose of the trip.

If I am just going out and want to take something with me I tend to wander into the study, look at the selection of cameras and lenses, and grab what takes my fancy today. The FED2 with the Industar-26m maybe? My LX with the 50mm f/1.2 lens? The ES with the SMC Takumar 55mm? Or perhaps the SFXn with the F35-70mm lens? (Film cameras are generally so cheap at the moment I have ended up with far too many.) If I am going out to take specific photographs, I take the kit appropriate to the image, e.g., the K20D with my Sigma 50mm macro lens for photographing wild flowers.

My biggest problem is when I am going travelling as sometimes too much choice can be a pain. Last year when I went to Romania for work I took the K20D with the kit zoom and the Sigma macro for work purposes, and my LX along with the K28/3.5, K50/1.2 and K135/2.5 lenses for fun. As it was the sensor on my K20D died and had to be replaced and I ended up using the LX and BW film for the work images too! I won't even start on what I took to Venice...

It depends on where I'm walking around...

When I visited China last year I found that the DA12-24 was on the K5 85% of the time, the rest of the time it was the DA55-300.

When I'm out on walkabout in the countryside it's always the DA17-70

My "walk around lens" is smc Pentax DA SDM * 300mm ED IF, for a while, cause I often shoot Butterfly and birds, .. I use Pentax DA 55-300 DAL pretty often too. I've got Pentax 18-55 DAL but I don't use it. I prefer Pentax SDM 17-70 instead. Why ? ..

I live in Oaxaca, Mexico, and when I leave my apartment I have the camera with the 18-135 lens. I have prime lenses which I love and use for certain applications and I have other zooms that go on the camera at other times but for my general stroll-around town outtings it's the 18-135.

I also have my 35mm f/2 in my pack for interior shots in churches.

My 80-200 f/2.0. I might not take many photographs, but my god it looks good!

I use the DA 21mm Ltd to places where I think I can zoom with my feet, otherwise I use my Sigma 17-70.

FA50-1.4 tends to be my most used lens on both film and digital...
My small shoulder bag carries FA50, FA28 and Tamron-17-50...

I'd like a 4 prime set-up: FA20 - FA35 - FA50 - FA100macro(maybe the tamron 90mm)... That would be a prefect walkaround kit for me as I use both K-x and MZ-7...

Sigma 17-70mm for me 90% of the time. If I think my fiancee may want to take pictures then I put the 18-250 on my second body and let her use that which means I will use one of my other lenses such as 12-24 or Sigma 100-300.

Oddly enough the 17-70 isn't my favourite lense, it's just the most useful.

I like the quality of primes but can't stand changing lenses only ever use those at home or when I've taken my camera out just to use them

That's two votes for the 21mm Ltd, I've been considering it for a walk around lens so I'm happy it has a couple of votes

Get yourself a FA31Ltd. It's long enough, it's wide enough and it's fast enough for walk about. So already three of your points invalidated

Sigma 17-70 first choice then Tamron 24- 135.
Find them both excellent as walk-arounds and equally useful on the K20 or MZ5n

A !5-500 is the only lens I would call a Perfect walk about lens, but the nearest I can get to Perfection is A DA 16-50 on one K5 over one shoulder and a Bigma on a second K5 over the other shoulder. not quite Perfect but how much would a 15-500mm Zoom giving good IQ cost 50K ?????
