No. 2 is full of character, very beady eye. Well captured.
Lurking is shirking.!

That second image is a cracker.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

The second one is really excellent, for several reasons.
Firstly, the composition. It's in thirds, and unusually, the feeder adds to this, rather than making the picture look a bit contrived, as is so often the case.
Secondly, it has the perfect combination of fluffy and sharp, which maximises the "awwwww" factor.
Thirdly, you've caught the perfect angle. I've got into bird feeding recently, and I have a number of feeders in use. If there's one thing that becomes increasingly clear, timing is everything, and you've timed this one to perfection.
Finally, with only 6 MP to play with, and a 100mm lens, you must have been pretty close, which doesn't make anything any easier.
I'd be very proud if I'd taken this picture.

By the way, I really like the first one too. Just right on the sharpness, and funny too.
Unusual to see them on the Niger seeds - do you also get Goldfinches?

Thanks folks! I did crop that second shot a bit, but not much - as has been said, when you only have 6Mb to play with you soon lose resolution. I think I was about 5' away. Took a few minutes to get that close, though.
Here's one I took as I approached, while it was still hunched on the niger seed feeder.

Not a great pic, but it does demonstrate the lovely bokeh of that 100mm lens.
It wasn't feeding on the niger, just resting/roosting. When I got a bit closer it hopped onto the peanuts, which is when I was able to catch the other pic. We do get goldfincehs though. Out in the fields the other week there was a flock of at least 50 feasting on the thistle seeds. Couldn't get close to them of course, and didn't have my camera with me (doh).

The second shot is great - shows just how cheeky they are.

Here he is from inside the house
Thought I'd see how close I could get to it from outside. He hopped on to the peanut feeder but was more interested in watching me than flying off!
Seems quite late in the year for them to still have the fluffy feathers!
