Was there around mid march and very muddy and boggy underfoot. Certain areas were fenced off due to the conditions. Parking is now £5 after the first hour, £2.50 first hour. You could try the layby at the junction with the M1 and walk up to the lower entrance car park. Not sure what the walk across the farm/grazing land would be like though. Below is a shot I got on a very cold and damp day there.

It's one of the places we visit every few months, take shots and then realise what we did wrong and plan for the next visit...

We could always arrange to meet up somewhere before hand, reduce the number of cars then make our way there.
I was wondering, if a whole day there would be stretching it, is there anywhere else near by we could go in the afternoon?
