Yet another really stupid question from me.

I really hope you don't get fed up with me, but ............

If I'm looking through the viewfinder and what I see is in focus, then when I upload to the computer it isn't, does that mean my eyesight needs testing or is it possible for the camera not to see the same thing as me.

I have tested for hand shake by fixing in a tripod and using a remote to activate the shutter.

This is focusing manually by sight (the auto focus always lies to me so I never use it).

Charlotte - try adjusting the diopter by sliding the bar located around the viewfinder (your manual should explain about diopter adjustment). It could be that your eyes are telling your brain that everything's in focus. If you normally wear glasses, give your eyes a moment to adjust without them, then re-adjust the diopter settings in the viewfinder. Hopefully, that will solve your problem.

Two words. Dioptre adjustment. Press the shutter half way without your eye at the viewfinder & let the auto focus work. Then put your eye to the viewfinder and move the little slider just above the viewfinder 'til the view is in focus. Try moving it to one end then the other. then slowly set it to your eyes. No thing to do with your problem (as that is probably the dioptre) but if you are doing mainly macro with manual focus then consider buying the Pentax O-ME53 1.2x magnifying eyepiece .. it does help quite a bit.

For macro work you might be better of with a Pentax Refconverter (M or A)
It can be switched between 1x and 2x and you look down into it.
The image is the right way round.

I have one of those .. (M) just can't get on with it.

May dig it out and try to sell it on the forum.

Thank goodness for that I really thought I'd got eye problems.

I've done as suggested and it's much better will check properly in daylight tomorrow. I didn't think of the dioptre.

Thank you for your suggestion Algernon, I've had a google to find out what a Pentax Refconverter is and I shall have a look at the bank balance as it would be nice to take piccies without my nose in the dirt.

Hi Charlotte, regarding the Dioptre, best way to adjust this is to look at the grid lines in your viewfinder and move the Dioptre left and right until the lines are perfectly sharp. If you can't get them sharp this indicates that your close vision is outside the range of the Dioptre adjustment and you may need other assistance as mentioned above.

I agree with you on the AF if you're shooting macro, but on other shots the AF should be sharp. If it isn't, you may need your AF fine-tuning on the camera; not sure where in the menu this is on the K-r, but I'm sure some of the other members could assist.

Now that's a silly question.

Look through the viewfinder at an evenly lit plain coloured wall then you will have no distractions, slide the dioptre adjustment all the way to the left or right and count the number of clicks you get until the grid lines are sharp, make a note of that number just in case the dioptre adjustment gets knocked then its an easy job to readjust it no matter where you are, it will also let you know when your eyes are getting worse. my adjustment has gone from 3 clicks to 4 over the last year.

As Walkeja says there are numerous silly questions, but Charlotte's certainly wasn't one!

I was well aware of the dioptre adjustment - mine often gets knocked - but the answers here have given me a few tips to improve on my use of it. Generally all the way to the right has been reasonably close for me without glasses.
