Hi,

it looks genuine enough from what little there is to see so far.. built in Front Page by the look of it, so unlikely to be a big concern spamming.

Not much to go on, but if it's genuine as indeed it looks, then jolly good luck to them.. I've clicked it to my favourites, so I'll see how it goes.

Cheers

Liam

Now it seems strange to me, that the people who registered and administer the domain use gmail email accounts and not an account belonging to their own domain!

No, it's the technical people behind the domain "pentaxworld.com" who are using gmail email accounts. I'd have expected them to have email accounts at pentaxworld.com or at a webhosting company domain (e.g. [email protected]">[email protected])

Compare that with the infomation for pentax.com

Hi Tim,

with teh site being built with what looks like FP, it may be that the people running the site are new to it, and haven't got round to, or didn't know about using domain based email. Got to start somewhere, and forum software is freely available. TBH, I can't see where there would be any benefit to a scam.. it looks like a perfectly valid forum, that PJ has let us know about, as we're all Pentax types..

Cheers

Dear Gordon,

dynadot.com is the registra I use to register my domain (similar to godaddy). Before knowing dynadot, I don't have a domain of my own, so I use gmail in the information page at dynadot for easy communication. I have many other domains with dynadot.com, but I don't want to use them to monitor my emails.

Honestly, I find gmail to be very nice to use, much nicer than horde or squarrelmail in cpanel. I don't use Outlook much now, as I prefer to store my emails online and accessible everywhere. The search feature in gmail is also much faster when I need to get information of a particular email.

I can of course change my registration information at dynadot to a pentaxworld.com email account, but I don't find it any easier for me to keep record of my domains later.

Hope this clarify once again that this is an invitation to join PentaxWorld.com, not spam

Dear LiamD,
PentaxWorld.com is still very new so there are definitely still much to improve. I use SMF as forum software and the front page design I just use frontpage to make a simple door to the forum.

I am still in search of a good CMS software to integrate into SMF and make it a better site to browse and manage, initially targetted at TinyPortal but the latest SMF release is not supported yet by TP. So, as temperary solution, I create using frontpage for the DOOR first

I am not an expert in web programming, PentaxWorld is a family for all...so hopefully some experts out there can join and be part of the family and make a better world to the Pentax users!

Another "new" site I came across recently is here http://www.pentaxforums.com/
On their welcome page they say Welcome to PentaxForums.com, the internet's first fully Pentax-dedicated forum! I wonder what they would say about us!.

It seems the K10D is generating quite a few new sites.

I'm with you Spider.

I'd hate to see THIS forum's information diluted and scattered over various sites. We seem to handle the whole spectrum just fine.

I'll stay here as long as I'm welcome. Can't see the new guys wanting anything but the latest digital discussions anyway.

You're always welcome! Everyone!

Forums take a very long time to develop, and PentaxUser has become a really lively place to meet. Some other forums are so quiet you can hear the echo when you arrive....

Hope everyone has a great New Year, perhaps even with their new cameras!
Best regards, John
