I've owned my 16-50mm SDM since Feb 08, broke it in Feb 11 and replaced it with a new one. Before I bought the replacement, I bought the new Sigma 17-50mm OS HSM so I now have both.
The Sigma is a very good, sharp lens and I think the OS is better than the SR in my K7. It's shortfall is that missing 1mm at the bottom end.
My 16-50 is also very sharp and I have yet to see CA.
Real world results seem different to reviews.
It's an excellent optic.
Best regards

Over time I have had the 16-45mm, 16-50mm, 17-70mm and Tamron 17-50mm.
The only one I still have in my collection is the DA* 16-50mm (and a recently purchased 18-135mm for walkabouts).
You are Stefans love child and I claim my prize.

I can't say I've looked hard enough to tell. I will do some compo shots and post. I use the 16-50mm more than the Sigma for the extra 1mm. I did post some with the SDM here linkSO you pefer the sigma 17-50 or the pentax 16-50?? if you have to choose one? in term of IQ I mean, forget about the weather seal.
These two with the Sigma

and my first 16-50mm SDM RIP

It's by no means a bad lens, but in my view the 16-50 is rather better.
Already I can see I should have bought one much, much sooner
Just need to do some AF testing on the K-5, and will try and keep you posted with more concrete comparisons
