Rito folks I'm looking for either of a Pentax K20D or Samsung GX20, scouring Ebay and dealers also but wanted to see what anyone has here, ideally in minty condition and would consider kits (lenses) also,

I would avoid the samsung mine had a problem with the sensor sent it to samsung for repair and they could not repair it due to the lack of spare parts. I ended up with them giving me a voucher to spend at the place of purchace. My camera was just over 12 months old.

Pathetic for a camera with a 2 year guarantee. Others on here have had the same problem with Samsung. Trading Standards should be prosecuting them.

The trouble was that there was (is) no current replacement, Roy. An NX camera was offered to Ian, but that's no good if you have DA lenses.

I doubt any GX20/K20s are in warranty any more so it's a moot point anyway.

I do think the OP might consider an in-warranty K7 which could have at least 12 months remaining, and would offer a seamless upgrade to K5 (same grip etc), if he decided it was 'worth it' and prices came down enough to make the leap. That's leaving aside the fact it shares at least 75% of the K5 feature set, even if the IQ is the same as the K20...

Does anyone has any experience of sending Samsung DSLRs to the official Pentax repairer? You'd have to pay, but most of the internal parts will be the same.

In any event, the OP might be better looking for the Pentax option.
Best regards, John

When I was considering a GX-20 a few weeks ago, I telephoned Johnsons who said they were wary/reluctant to carry out Samsung GX repairs because of spares availability and the need to warranty their work. They referred me to Camtronics here: http://www.camtronics.co.uk/photographic-equipment.html

who confirmed to me that they had full availability of Samsung GX parts.

camtronics were the ones who arranged a replacement for my gx20 after it was deemed not worth repairing

GX-20's were still on sale during the summer of 2009 and carried a 2 year warranty quite a lot will still have about 6 months warranty left. Not exactly the kind of service that you expect from a camera company aiming to be in the top 3 shortly

Thanks folks, I will take into account possible issues around Samsung GX20's I have been considering buying used from SRS as you get a 6 month warranty with everything and a K20D wouldn't really be any dearer than buying elsewhere, that said I also had a play with a K7 in Jacobs today and was very impressed with it, nice build so if I don't win the bidding on the K20D I've bid on Ebay then I may see if I can source a K7, seems silly paying £300 - £350 for a K20D when there is a K7 for sale here for £460.

If the price difference is that little, I would go for the K-7. I can understand why K20D owners did not upgrade, as the image quality really did not improve between the two. But leave IQ to one side, and there's an awful lot else which was, at least in my opinion, much nicer with the K-7.

I have had one of my GX20 recently repaired by Asahi Photo, no issue with parts or repairs.

The repair was the power on off circuit board needed replacing. I am guessing the guts inside are identical to the k20d.

That's good to know... I wonder if they have all the correct diagnostic software?
