WTB: Pentax K to Q-mount Adapter

Wow, these are not cheap!! There are one or two listed here link

They weren't 5 years ago, either - £240 brand new from Ricoh Europe. But it is a high quality bit of kit. It wouldn't surprise me if I got the last new one in Europe. And in case you're wondering, I'm not selling!!

Steve, enlighten me please, what is the difference between/ benefit of the Pentax adapter over the aftermarket (much cheaper) versions. Does it provide any different functionality?

Stephen - Yes.
The Q is limited to a maximum 2 sec exsposure when using a lens without a leaf shutter. The Offical adapter has a leaf shutter built in and the electronics allowing you then to extend the shutter to 30 Sec and bulb.

The leaf shutter also means that you don't get the motion artifacts that the electronic shutter can give.

The Pentax adapter also has an aperture ring which controls the aperture in lenses that don't have an aperture ring or have an A setting.

And there is the ability to attach a tripod foot to the adapter (the one used by the DA*300mm f4) so it can be tripod mounted as and when needed (not advisable to use the camera's tripod socket when a K-mount lens is attached, it's designed for light-weight Q lenses).

Thank you both so much for enlightening me. Makes my little after market adapter look almost worthless in comparison (which is reflected appropriately in the price I paid )

If it does what you want, then it's worth a lot irrespective of price .

Something at the back of my mind says that there are also things you can do with external flash with the Pentax adapter but not with a cheap 3rd party one. It's to do with having a leaf shutter in the adapter. But I'm not sure what they are and might be completely wrong about it!

To date I have only used my longer Pentax K lenses (which have the tripod collar) with the aftermarket adapter I use. My concern had been to eliminate unwanted movement on the image so faster shutter speeds have been the order of the day - this thread though has opened up a whole new rabbit hole for me to dive down

Geoff, should my resolve not to buy too much more kit crumble and I acquire the adapter I will let you know - you would be more than welcome to borrow it

Would the aperture control you mentioned support newer Pentax lenses? If so, it would be amazing to see a full frame version to use with film! I’d certainly purchase day one
