I also had the 12-24 and it was certainly sharp all over and very little lens distortion (especially compared to the sigma 10-20). It's a superb lens if you can afford it!

I've got the Sigma 8-16mm that's had little use and which I'm looking to dispose of as I've now acquired a Nik.FF for landscape, although I'm keeping the K5 for wildlife.

I had a 12-24 some time back and found it to be probably the sharpest Pentax zoom I've owned (including the corners wide open). Perhaps you didn't have a good copy, David.

Talking about distortions it is important to distinguish lens distortion, of which the 12-24 displays very little, from perspective distortion which comes with the territory regardless of lens.
