WTB - Pentax 60-250mm F4

So I was looking initially to sell my Sigma 70-200mm and buy the lighter WR Pentax lens that's just come out but then I got thinking that I use the Sigma in the studio and for weddings and its a damn fine lens and it'd need to put a lot of money to it to get the newer lens as its got a RRP of 1200!

I got thinking that all I wanted from the new lens was it to be lighter, still a telephoto and was WR so for my landscape shooting I could then shoot all focal lengths regardless.

Reading up the 60-250mm is highly recommended and once modified, suitable for FF and would give me what I want and, not that much heavier than the new 70-200mm, plus it has a tripod foot.

So I sent a message to ILoveSaabs asking if his 60-250mm was still available as I could then keep the Sigma so best of both worlds but so far I've not had a reply.

So if anyone has a 60-250mm for sale please DM me, ideally with a modified baffle!
My landscape photography is MF so dodgy SDM isn't an issue. I know ILoveSaabs was up for £450 Inc postage so ideally I'd like to pay somewhere around there.

Thanks.

Gareth the 60-250 isn't a FF lens even with a modified baffle.

From my experiences the vignetting isn't a great deal breaker. I've seen as much vignetting on lenses such as the 18-135 on a crop body so maybe consider the pros/cons a bit more.

Also worth noting that there's no huge need to modify the baffle, just remove it (its glued) and see how the lens handles.

I used the 60-250 on FF many times. If you don’t crop there is vignetteing but I always found it manageable. The IQ is excellent but the focussing speed is dated.

Thanks for that link, I was reading it waiting for them to mention the 60-250mm instead of bickering with one another! I know it's not a true FF lens but I saw some comparisons on PF with the existing baffle, a modified baffle and then no baffle and with it mod'd there was a little vignetting still at f5. 6 but manageable I think in PP to edit away and stopped down it was gone.

I think Unlocker managed to buy the baffle so was able to make it stock when he sold his as he had one mod'd and one standard.

Yeah the AF isn't great but if I use it as a MF only lens I'll be fine!
Did you alter your baffle or use it stock? Did you just crop it out in post?

What I did with mine was remove the aperture guard (fixed by three screws) and then I simply pulled the baffle from the aperture guard with a tiny bit of force. I'm sure something like acetone would dissolve the glue anyway. When it came to selling I offered the lens with baffle removed or the option of re-attaching with glue.

Give it a good test run before deciding if you want to remove the baffle.

Yes, before I remove anything I'll be giving it a complete once over as it's coming from a general second hand shop that don't specialise in photographic equipment so could arrive and be a right dog!

Well you've saved yourself a pretty penny over the price of the new 70-210!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the DA 60-260, not least for the extra range it offers.

It is indeed a fine lens.

Would be interested to know if it's OK - if the lens number is 9233979 it has a little bit of history. I did consider buying that particular lens.

IloveSaabs was on holiday - the lens has been available a few months now and I think I can be excused a few days away from my computer...

I did intend on taking the lens to Prague, but in the end took the FA*80-200 2.8, in the end I would've preferred the versatility of the DA*

Absolutely! No one is tied to a computer and quite rightly so!
I just wasn't sure if it was still available hence me trying to get hold of you and then this other came up! My neighbour is the postie but he's out at the moment and he signed for my parcel. As soon as he's in I can get it and check it out and if its trash it's going back and if no one pips me to the post then I'll grab yours!

Hopefully my recent posts would have ignited some interest in the 60-250mm for full frame shooting and if I don't have yours, someone soon will

Pleased to hear it Gareth - I strongly suspect the lens I gave the number for is a bit iffy! I am waiting for it to reappear and I am prepared to do a heads up if it does.
