Wireless with aperture ring

I've just discovered that I cannot use my flash (Metz 5 in wireless mode when using my K10 in aperture ring mode, the options are greyed out in the camera flash menu.
Does anyone know of a way around this or why it can't be done? Surely the camera can tell the flash when it's produced enough light without having to tell it what aperture it's using?
I'm trying to use a SMC Pentax-M 1.7 50mm

Thanks in advance!

No it can't since the aperture effects the power of the flash.
The flash is only one charge, it's not something like a lamp you switch on and off.

Shutterspeed controls the ambient light so that combined with aperture and a flash you can balance the ambient light and the flash light.

I ain't 100% sure but does the camera do P-TTL with the pop-up flash, if not you can set your flash on dumb-slave mode and it will simply flash with every flash it sees.
You can also get wireless hotsoe triggers like Cactus.
