Winchcombe

It was our anniversary on Monday so I thought it would be nice to have a lunchtime meal in the hotel where we spent the first night of our honeymoon en route to Cornwall, many years ago. The only inn open in the centre of Winchcombe is the White Hart so a pub lunch in the garden, but although my memory of the place is hazy it didn't seem at all familiar. Almost next door is The George which still has a sign but has been converted to flats and houses, but that was it! A few years ago we revisited the Bay View Hotel in Port Isaac only to find it had been demolished, such a shame we have no photos from that time.

Anyhow here are some postcard snaps of Winchcombe from the day (without the cheesy family snaps):

and not a car in sight, how did you manage that?

It’s a quiet place! There were a couple passing through so I just waited until they had gone. Just down the road Broadway on the other hand was heaving with people and cars but Winchcombe isn’t really a tourist destination despite its ancient buildings. There are lots of photographic opportunities so will return when I have more time.

Nice bright day to show it at its best. The East Window in the Church is pretty spectacular and unusual as it only depicts one scene, also Sudley Castle is nearby. Probably one of the few cotswold villages you can get car free images

Looks a lovely place to have a bimble down enjoying those shops and sights, maybe a cheeky coffee and a cake somewhere

A good record of a lovely little village that holds dear memories for you - we've never been down the High Street, stopped at the Steam Railway station a couple of times and been on the outskirts on the way to other places
