Will the K7 replace the K20 in the product range?

So how will this work out? Leaving aside direct feature comparisons, is the K7 seen by Pentax as, for example, a Nikon D90 or D300 competitor within the market place? Will it completely replace the K20D in the short or medium term?

So far I know Pentax doesn't see it as an K20D replacement so the K20D will be kept in production but the end is in sight though for the K20D.
By chirstmas we should know more about that for sure.

I'm reliably informed that the k20D supply will dry up fairly quickly after the K-7 hits the stores.

It may not be a technological replacement for the K20D, but if that's all you can buy very soon ? ? ?

That would make for an interesting line up, only the K-7 or Km? Surely the price differential is too high? I could see people paying the extra if they were thinking about a K20, but the premium over a Km seems far too much.

The K20D is an excellent camera and at half the price of the K-7, Joe Public (if they've got any sense) would chose the K20D. I can't see it living much longer.

Pentax (and others) need to sell new technology, not old.

Apparently there will be a camera (stripped down K-7) announced/released around Xmas that will replace both the K200D and K20D. This will leave Pentax with 3 levels of camera.

That's v.interesting; I've been considering getting an additional body towards the end of the year. Though it's likely to be the K-M if I do (but let's wait and see!).

K20D stays as a current model for now, K200D is discontinued, so 3 tier model range. Price goes up on June 1st.

Current list price for the K20D is £649 RRP, street price is less, that will go up on June 1st, so the difference will be nearer 50% more for the K-7. When you look at it in that context, it's not as bad as it sounds, also what was the RRP (NOT street price!) of the K20D on release? £999? Not that much difference to be truthful, we need to be more thankful as to what a bargain the K20D is at the moment!
