Wide angle lens opinion needed

Yes indeed, for specific requirements there will be specific needs. My usual use also falls into the category of using small apertures for DOF, so an f4 lens is fine underthose circumstances.
This is why advice that's good for me might not be good for you and vice-versa.

No doubt you are correct. And the lens also focuses closer, an important fact not often mentioned. However I hold that for most typical applications of a wide angle, that is not as relevant. But either way it highlights how impossible it is to recommend specific lenses unless the use cases are clearly stated.

Thank you guys. I have learnt a lot from this thread. I tried out the 20mm f1.8 and it is really big - must be because it's an "ultra wide" for FF. It seems like there isn't a DA-like solution right now for my need so I'll spend the money on something else then. *shameless plea: please answer the next thread I'm starting *
Cheers.
Cheers.

Ultimately, depends on your expected use for the lens, the budget you have and which body you are using.
