As it is he'll have to make do with whatever our son cooks for him tomorrow (besides the standing rib of beef that is).

Good luck with choosing a lens. I agree they help to add foreground to a landscape,and to give a different perspective, but that ain't always possible. Maybe I just find the wrong landscape .

Uisong an ultrawide lens in cramped conditions is fine, but if it's for shooting groups of people those on the edges may not thank you. They will be spread out and distorted, so you don't win as you have to keep them from the edges. It can't really be helped.

I have owned the Sigma 10-20 and it is a stunning lens, I now have the Pentax 12-24, which does need more use to be honest, but again another stunner.

If you can pick up a used Sigma you can't really go wrong to be honest, it really is great.
