Why the difference?

Can anyone tell me why the pentax 10-17mm fisheye is £300 (best price)
and the Samsung 10-17mm fisheye is £260 (best price).
Will there be a difference:
Roy

They are marketed by different companies, and prices are set on their best estimates of what the market will pay.

The second-hand price of a Samsung lens is likely to be lower than that of a Pentax lens, so the latter is perhaps the smarter buy.

Brand-names count.

Brand name! So if you don't care about the name , go for the Samsung. If you can actually find one, that is.

Martin.

Martin.

You may not care about the brand name, but a subsequent buyer might. When selling it's a good idea not to project our own notions into the sale. A typical example is thinking that your buyer can't afford something. Buyers can be very surprising!

The point I was making is that when you sell the lens, the Pentax is likely to fetch more. So financially, it MAY be a better investment.

Optically, I am sure there is no difference.

I fogot to mention that I have a 10-17mm Pentax on eBay at the moment. Condition is as new in every respect.

I also have a spotless 43mm on there, as new and boxed.

You can't say "as new" on eBay, but you can here!

Looking at 18-250mm for Sue (she always has the wrong lens on...) and maybe the 55-300mm for me. Then maybe the 100mm D-FA Macro.

JohnMcD has a FA 100mm Macro available. It'll work with the alleged FF bodies coming soon too.

It is interesting how they took that "off the air" if you like
Probably because they don't want people to realise that the DA15, DA30, and DA55 are actually going to take as long as the 60-250
