The problem now is the amount of electronics.
Back then lenses were mechanical, the only thing the camera did was stop down the aperture.
Now there is an immense amount of data being passed between the camera and the lens. I don't think it's impossible to do a universal mount, but it is a lot harder.

If I remember correctly the T mount system was purely mechanical and did not include electronic contacts. With the complexities of modern cameras it would be difficult to produce a universal system with adapters for the common brands of camera.

The closest to an universal mount is the Tamron Adaptall-mount adapter. But still no AF though.

The T Mount was originally for telescopes, but also used on pre-set lenses.

Archie see you just sold da 300 with 1x4 converter , how did this work any good , might go this route cheaper has well , has i already have 70 200 f2.8

The Tamron 1.4 AF PZ TC is one of the few teleconverters that work with SDM lenses as it has the PZ (power zoom)contacts. It works best with fast primes provided the light is good. In poor light it tends to hunt a lot. Fast zooms should work quite well. Anything from f4 to wider aperture should be ok.

Put me down for the Tamron 60mm F2 Macro. Small light and fast. I would love to see that lens with the K mount.

Put me down too! I was going to get that for Nikon when I had a d7000, then I got the K5 and was totally gutted that it wasn't available. and It'll make a great portrait lens as well as macro.

Not that I'm interested with buying this lens but regarding to Sigma's website they have little mess there. I have been checking 800/5.6 and info card says: Sigma, Canon, Nikon, but I've watched video (which is really funny) and guy saying that lens comes with Pentax and other mounts too.
I'm confused.

No, not the 800mm f/5.6 but they do a 500 f/4.5 in Pentax fit.Not that I'm interested with buying this lens but regarding to Sigma's website they have little mess there. John here's link watch video at 3:15, guy says Pentax, but on website says C,N, and Sigma. Not that I'm willing to buy this monster, just curious about it.
Regarding to topic it is shame that Sigma has some nice lenses for C and N only:/ Specially the older models(like 70-210/2..

Pawel what he says is that Sigma produce high quality lenses for various manufacturers, not that that specific lens is suitable for all those manufacturers.

Surely this approach would satisfy the economics of targets as the lenses would be common to all camera makes
