White Tailed Sea Eagle

Not my usual sort of subject - taken this afternoon in North Yorks on the K5 with Sigma 120-400. This has not been cropped but has had some pp work done in LR 4,

210mm, 1/500, f5.6, ISO 100

This is a tremendous image Carl, you have caught the bird perfectly. If it were mine I would tone down the colours a bit, but I can't fault the shot, it's brilliant.

Thanks David - I still need to get my monitor calibrated - strangely though on this one I have not increased colour or saturation other than decreasing the blue luminance and punching the hue up a bit.

Thanks guys - following on from David's comment on the colour - I have made a few adjustments and posted another version in the gallery - would be interesting to know which is preferred.

I can not tell much difference. If i hasd to choose it'd be the gallery one. The colours do seem bold on my IPS 24" monitor. The picture is so striking from the outset.

I'm impressed you got away with F5.6 for depth of field and you were so lucky to have the light to take at 100 ISO, which must contribute to the fine end product, very jealous of you seeing the bird never mind taking that shot.

How many of us panic with the wrong settings when such events come upon us eh?

Personally I prefer this one, the colours are a bit flat IMO on the gallery one.

No matter which one people prefer its still a great shot.

The gallery one for me is the better balanced.

Very nicely captured Carl. Well timed and sharp. Not keen on the PP though. The sky looks odd. I do prefer the darker greens in the Gallery version
