Which memory card?

Class 10 is only 10MB/s so no big deal.

I certainly wouldn't recommend Transcend Class 10 SDHC 8GB to
anybody. I've recently bought one and my first problem was that
all the image files couldn't be copied to the HD. So I reformatted
in camera and used the card again. I was looking at some of the
Jpegs on the card and suspected that the viewer I was using was
showing me the embedded RAW Jpeg instead of the separate file.
So I made a directory on the card called RAWS and moved the 150 or
so files over 50 at a time. Later on another computer I was copying
all the files over to HD and there weren't any files in the RAWS
dir. after copying the Jpegs to the HD I deleted them OK off
the card, but when I tried to delete the RAWS dir it said
"access denied" Image Rescue 3 couldn't find anything so I
re-formatted and checked the card with Image Rescue 3 and it
found nothing wrong.

I used the card again in the camera and took about 100 shots,
but the 6 most important one's weren't there when I looked at
the card.

It also fails trying to copy 200mb files between two computers.

Now I have to decide on either binning it or trying to return
it to Memorybits without the packaging or receipt or possibly
claim off Paypal (it was bought with a discount off their offers page.

Have you formatted the card in the camera before using it?

Also, are you using a camera that will accept SDHC cards?
Best regards, John

Yes K20D and the first thing I did was format in camera. After
the first problem I formatted it with the official SDFormatter
v2.9.0.5 with FULL Format and byte by byte Erase.

Strange thing with the files I couldn't copy was that Scandisk
on XPPro SP3 found nothing wrong. Another PC with Win 7 found
the files damaged and tried to repair them without success.

I'll send an email to Memorybytes and see what they say.

ATP ProMax SDHC Class 6 are currently the fastest cards, but
we can't buy them in the UK.

Some nice tests on Youtube like this one link

Another vote I'm afraid for the Sandisk Extreme III cards

I use 8gb and lots of 'em, I also change frequently in use so that not all the eggs in the same basket. Having said that I've not had a failure yet..........................................................

If your images are important to you and mine are, the cards are the cheap bit when you consider the investment you have in the rest of your equipment. So buy the best and IMHO that's the Sandisk Extreme III

The answer to all memory card questions - regardless of the type of card or the use to which it will be put - is "buy the one that says Sandisk Extreme III on it"

Emma,

SanDisk have changed their labelling descriptions on SD cards, just to make things a bit more interesting.

They have dropped the 'numbering' system, so no longer will they be Extreme III etc.

They will now just be Sandisk Extreme SDHC Memory Cards (speeds up to 30 MB/sec) and SanDisk Extreme HD Video SDHC Cards (only 20 MB/sec).

I found this out yesterday at PMA 2010, held in Melbourne - I visited the SanDisk stand and got this from the SanDisk people direct.

The SanDisk Ultra cards are only 15 MB/sec.

Of course, if you find cards that were manufactured before these changes took place, then Extreme III cards are the way to go.

FWIW, the 'Extreme' series are supposedly more robust as well - it's not all about speed.

Lastly, speed might be valuable if you've set your camera to continuous shooting. I like to take one shot at a time, so speed is less of an issue anyway if you do the same.

Every card I own is a Sandisk Extreme III, never had any problems so no need to change. Nearly as fast as the fastest and nearly as cheap as the cheapest.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

Bit of a brash statement you've made there

They don't even comply with the following questions:

Is is Waterproof? ..... No
Is it Dustproof? ..... No

Can you find info about people having problems with Sandisk
Cards on Google? ........ Yes

Is it the current big favorite of the Pro Video boys..... No

Do MxM Express rate it as the No: 1 Card ....... No

I've just ordered an 8GB card that has the opposite answer to all five questions

Bit of a hint here

When you search you will also find some having troubles with ATP cards so lets face it no product is without a fault or dodgy card once in a while.
They are indeed durable link
But lets face it, how likely would it be for the card to get wet.
