Just enter the Focal length given on the lens.

And just remember it's only there to set up the shake reduction system. If you switch that off you'r not asked for the focal length when you turn the camera on.

Forgot about SR. I was going to be using it with the camera on a tripod so SR would be off. Something to play about with anyway

If SR will be active, it makes sense to get the input figure as near as possible to the actual lens focal length - eg for my 14mm I have to enter 15.
For a zoom, yes, the mid range figure would be a fair compromise, but if you are averaging more shots at either end of the range then go for a figure nearer to that specifically.
Another consideration is that these manual lenses will leave a number of XMP data fields empty in the file metadata, so your entered value will be recorded in the focal length field instead - this can be useful for identifying the lens used in the future.

In other words do I have to make the calculation for the camera or does the camera do it for me automatically?
