Glad to see you manage to get it working
You don't need an AC adapter, if you use a freshly charged battery it's also okay.
They advice you to use the AC for the case when your battery runs out of juice.
It could be that you already have the latest update, hold down the "menu" button and turn your camera on it should show the firmware version.
1.30 is the latest and last update there will be for your GX10 and it introduce some new features, upgrades and fixes so it's advisable to update to that.
We just had a whole discussion about firmware updates and how to do them but I can't find it any more but I see there are photos on the Samsung site, it's really that easy.
