Whereabouts are you?

This has been discussed before, I know, but still quite a few members show their location as

Location: (... nothing, blank space)

It is always nice too know where you are (at least I appreciate this info myself). Therefore I would like to challenge you all to check your profiles and fill in your location. (Not necessarily your street address, city/country would do nicely).

I hope I'm not offending anybody by this.
Best regards
Terry

will I know when I get there.

Totally agree with the OP though.

Funny, my signature at work just happens to be TeL. But I doubt there will be any conflicts

Normally, I spell my name Terry in English, because the Norwegian Terje seems to be rather difficult to pronounce on the other side of the North Sea.

Completely off topic - how do you pronounce Terje then? I would guess at Tairyuh (approximately - I'm basing it on how I would say it if it were a Dutch name), but I know that some letters are pronounced differently in Norwegian.

What can I say, Gwyn,

Short 't', the e's are pronounced as in 'echo', the j as the first part of 'you'. Does that make any sense?

Thankyou Terje for that! I love the name and can now attempt to say it properly.
A friend changed his name from Gerrit to Gerry when talking to English people as they couldn't get their throats around the Dutch "G".
And my grandson Merlijn gets lumbered with Merlin when my relatives talk about him. Mind you I have had some wonderful pronunciations of Gwyneth since I've been in Holland

I really appreciate the response to my post! As to Don's

I shall refrain from making a longish, philosophical comment, which would be a totally different discussion.

But it is always nice to put, if not a face, then at least a place, to the names. And interesting to note the small linguistic challenges as pointed out by Gwyn.

Thank you all
Best regards

Thank you all
Since you enjoy linguistic challenges, here's my full name:

Yves Laurier

Now you can all try to say it properly together.
One thing to remember with French: the letters sound the same in a word as they sound in the alphabet, unlike English where a letter can be pronounced about ten different ways. And then they say French is hard to learn. I wish English was as easy to learn as French!

::::It's pronounced "FRANK STEVENS".
SImilar to French Canadian Hockey Star "Patrick Roy" Roy, as in WHA?
